Al-Anbya 21:97

Word by word

وَٱقْتَرَبَ ٱلْوَعْدُ ٱلْحَقُّ فَإِذَا هِىَ شَـٰخِصَةٌ أَبْصَـٰرُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ يَـٰوَيْلَنَا قَدْ كُنَّا فِى غَفْلَةٍ مِّنْ هَـٰذَا بَلْ كُنَّا ظَـٰلِمِينَ

And [when] the true promise [i.e., the resurrection] has approached; then suddenly the eyes of those who disbelieved will be staring [in horror, while they say], "O woe to us; we had been unmindful of this; rather, we were wrongdoers."

وقوله : ( واقترب الوعد الحق ) يعني : يوم القيامة ، إذا وجدت هذه الأهوال والزلازل والبلابل ، أزفت الساعة واقتربت ، فإذا كانت ووقعت قال الكافرون : ( هذا يوم عسر ) [ القمر : 8 ] . ولهذا قال تعالى : ( فإذا هي شاخصة أبصار الذين كفروا ) أي : من شدة ما يشاهدونه من الأمور العظام : ( يا ويلنا ) أي : يقولون : ( يا ويلنا قد كنا في غفلة من هذا ) أي : في الدنيا ، ( بل كنا ظالمين ) ، يعترفون بظلمهم لأنفسهم ، حيث لا ينفعهم ذلك .
