Tafsir

Scholarly commentary explaining a verse — its context, its meaning and how the scholars have understood it.

Taha 20:99

Word by word

كَذَٰلِكَ نَقُصُّ عَلَيْكَ مِنْ أَنۢبَآءِ مَا قَدْ سَبَقَ ۚ وَقَدْ ءَاتَيْنَـٰكَ مِن لَّدُنَّا ذِكْرًا

Thus, [O Muḥammad], We relate to you from the news of what has preceded. And We have certainly given you from Us a message [i.e., the Qur’ān].

Tafsir Ibn Kathir

Hafiz Ibn Kathir

يقول تعالى لنبيه محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم : كما قصصنا عليك خبر موسى ، وما جرى له مع فرعون وجنوده على الجلية والأمر الواقع ، كذلك نقص عليك الأخبار الماضية كما وقعت من غير زيادة ولا نقص ، هذا ( وقد آتيناك من لدنا ) أي : عندنا ) ذكرا ) وهو القرآن العظيم ، الذي ( لا يأتيه الباطل من بين يديه ولا من خلفه تنزيل من حكيم حميد ) [ فصلت : 42 ] ، الذي لم يعط نبي من الأنبياء [ منذ بعثوا إلى أن ختموا ] بمحمد صلى الله عليه وسلم تسليما ، كتابا مثله ولا أكمل منه ، ولا أجمع لخبر ما سبق وخبر ما هو كائن ، وحكم الفصل بين الناس منه;
